VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR MOBILE CLINICS IN COMMUNITIES DEVASTATED BY HURRICANE MATTHEW
Project Medishare relies on volunteers to expand our capacity to deliver healthcare services to Haitians, and aid in the training and education of Haitian doctors, nurses and other medical staff. We have an immediate need for pharmacists, doctors and nurses to assist us in delivering basic healthcare to vulnerable families in rural Haiti affected by Hurricane Matthew.
Project Medishare will conduct mobile clinics in eight rural communities near Les Cayes in the South of Haiti. These communities were severely affected by the hurricane – most families lost their home, crops and livestock, and have been unable to access healthcare. As a mobile clinic volunteer, you will work alongside local medical professionals and other volunteers to deliver basic healthcare to Haitian families. In order to volunteer you must:
- Be a licensed pharmacist, doctor or registered nurse*
- Commit to a one week deployment (Monday – Saturday)
- Arrange your own travel to and from Haiti
- Be comfortable working in a rural setting with limited resources and equipment
- Fundraise or donate $350 to cover local expenses such as transportation, room and board, medical supplies and translation services
* Medical specialties limited to Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, or Obstetrics and Gynecology
We are seeking volunteers for the following dates only: July 10 - 15, and July 24 - 29. There are currently no other dates available for this volunteer opportunity.
If you do not match one of the requested specialties or you are unable to volunteer during the available dates, then we encourage you to register to volunteer with us either in the Central Plateau or Port-au-Prince at a time that better fits your schedule.
The first step to volunteering with Project Medishare is to register and indicate which dates you are available to travel. Volunteers must arrive on Monday and depart on Saturday. A one-week commitment is required. If you are traveling with a group, please select a team leader to serve as the primary point of contact. The team leader will register all members of the group, including him/herself.
There is no fee to register, but you will be required to pay the volunteer fee noted above. Once your deployment has been confirmed, you will receive additional information and instructions. Due to the volume of requests we receive, please allow five business days for a response. DO NOT START FUNDRAISING FOR YOUR TRIP OR PAY THE FEE UNTIL YOUR TRIP IS CONFIRMED.
Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Project Medishare in Haiti to help families devastated by Hurricane Matthew. We hope to see you soon!
